Claim God's Promises

Genesis 13: Yours For the Taking

God promised Abram the land, but he had to walk it to claim it.

“After Lot had separated from him, the Lord said to Abram, ‘Look from the place where you are. Look north and south, east and west, for I will give you and your offspring forever all the land that you see.  I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust of the earth, then your offspring could be counted. Get up and walk around the land, through its length and width, for I will give it to you.’”

Genesis 13:14-17, HCSB

God has great and wondrous things for us. His promises in His Word say so. But we don’t just get them automatically. Just like it requires action for His promises to apply to our lives, so it requires action for His promises to be activated in our lives.

Abram had to get up from where he was and walk throughout the land God promised to give him as an act of laying claim to what was his. Similarly, God will call each of us in our own way to undertake an act of appropriation that gets us moving and actively participating in God’s promise.

Where are you walking today?
